I feel I've spent my life searching for a career which captures my soul in the way that reading always has done. Partway through my first year of teaching creative writing to adult ed students and alongside a distance learning MA in Creative Writing through Lancaster University, I discovered how much I enjoy supporting upcoming authors. I spent two years applying for editing roles in publishing before a friend suggested I try freelancing. By this time I had completed a number of courses with the CIEP (Chartered Institute of Editors and Proofreaders) together with other professional courses with Sophie Playle, Louise Harnby, BookMachine, SYP (Society of Young Publishers) amongst others. I was offered a place on the SYP LAUNCH scheme in 2020 and launched my editing business in August 2020. You can visit my website: www.authorspen.co.uk for more blogs about the writing process and to subscribe to and read my monthly newsletters.
Alongside my editing, I've been writing fiction for almost twenty years and intend to have my first book ready for submission to agents by the end of 2022 - there, it's in writing!
When I was a teenager I was aware how difficult it was to find new books to read, not that they weren't out there, but how to go about finding new authors. There were more books published during lockdown and more new readers created by the pandemic and I love the wealth of books written by today's authors am thrilled to have been able to achieve my aspirations and to be a part of this vibrant and ever-changing industry and to help to discover the next great books and authors.
